Empowering students to design, fund, and lead meaningful projects that contribute to Panjab's recovery, rooted in seva and built on listening.
Our Mission
Khudrang Roots is a student-led initiative under the United Sikh Movement, empowering students to design and lead meaningful projects that contribute to Panjab's recovery and long-term growth, while building their own leadership and career skills.
We bring together Sikh student organizations across campuses to turn creativity, passion, and fundraising into real, lasting impact in Panjab. Every project starts with listening, not imposing.
Summer 2026
Our first student cohort will travel to Panjab in Summer 2026 to implement the projects they've designed, working directly with communities on the ground and supported by professional mentors.

Summer 2026 · Panjab Listening & Research Initiative
This summer, Khudrang Roots is traveling across Panjab to listen, learn, and build relationships with communities on the ground. Through conversations with village leaders, families, educators, and grassroots organizations, we aim to better understand the challenges communities are facing directly from the people living them.
Rather than arriving with solutions, this trip is focused on learning first, creating the foundation for future student-led projects rooted in real community needs and long-term impact.

The People Behind It
Founding Director
President, De Anza SSA
Harshdeep is the visionary behind Khudrang Roots, driven by a deep commitment to Panjabi heritage and student empowerment. As President of De Anza's Sikh Student Association, he has built coalitions across campuses and channels that energy into meaningful on-the-ground change in Panjab.
Director of Operations
USM Coord., President SJSU SCF
Hasmeet’s work is centered on developing community-based approaches to change in Panjab through sustained engagement, local insight, and youth-led collaboration. Through Khudrang, she is interested in exploring how students can contribute to long-term, accountable initiatives that are shaped by the priorities and experiences of the communities they engage with. She currently serves as the NorCal Coordinator for the Bay Area under United Sikh Movement and as President of the Sikh Collegiate Federation at San José State University, where she focuses on student organizing, Sikh advocacy, and strengthening networks for civic and community engagement.
Director of Strategy
President, LPC SCF
My name is Jaspreet Kaur, and I currently serve as the Director of Strategy at Khudrang Roots. Drawing from my experience founding the Las Positas Sikh Collegiate Foundation, I focus on developing fundraising, outreach, and marketing strategies that support the organization’s growth and impact. My role involves improving systems, tracking engagement and performance, identifying partnerships, and proposing new initiatives for expansion. I contribute to long-term planning and organizational direction while supporting, rather than directly managing, execution.

Treasurer, LPC SCF
Mehtaab manages the financial stewardship of Khudrang Roots, ensuring every donated dollar is tracked with care and accountability. As Treasurer of LPC's Sikh Campus Fellowship, he brings financial discipline and a student-first mindset to the organization's growth.

Simar works to connect organizations from the West to Punjab to build relationships leading to sustainable initiatives through Khudrang. These experiences have allowed her to build connections with SSAs across the country, and to continue outreach to support Punjab through student-led change.

Vice President, De Anza SSA
Arshi is the operations and logistics intern at Khudrang Roots. Her work involves managing timelines and operational records to improve workflow and efficiency. She serves as the Vice President of the De Anza SSA and is the student initiator of the Sikh Studies course at De Anza.
